Faden is a crystal structure present in numerous minerals. Far from being a niche topic, the analysis of the Faden leads the author to discuss the dynamics of crystal growth and the geology of their deposits. A new and complete model is proposed that departs from the traditional vision of these highly collectible crystals.
I will immediately give you a spoiler to anticipate that according to this extensive investigation, Faden is a parallel growth of euhedral crystals on a pre-existing filament of microcrystalline nature. The composition of the filament can vary, but it is never quartz as the official theory demands. Faden with biphasic inclusions represents a particular case in which the filament has been reabsorbed inside the quartz. In these cases the original mineral of the filament is unknown, but the most likely minerals are halite and gypsum.
